Costa Rica, third in Latin America in technology development

Costa Rica ranks third among the nations of Latin America in the deployment of information technologies and communication technologies (ICTs). The data are from the Report of the Global Information Technology 2008-2009 released today by the March 26 World Economic Forum.

The two Latin American countries that are located in the first two places are Chile, 39 in place of the list of 134 nations and 42 in Puerto Rico.
Costa Rica is located in the place 56, which means that improved its position on the 2007-2008 report when he became 60.
The rest of the results of the Latin American region are: Brazil (59), Colombia (64), Uruguay (65), Panama (66) and Mexico (67). Guatemala is ranked 82 and Argentina lost ground to the position 87, followed by Peru (89), Honduras (95), Venezuela (96), and near the end of the list are Ecuador (116), Paraguay ( 122), Nicaragua (125) and Bolivia (128).

According to information released by the World Economic Forum, Denmark, Sweden and United States top the list. The Nordic countries are still considering the interconnected economies of the world for the third consecutive year.

The remainder of the top ten list are Singapore, Switzerland, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Holland and Canada.

What is measured?

The report published for the eighth consecutive year and named Network Readiness Index (NRI), examines how prepared countries are to use ICT effectively on three dimensions: the business environment, policy and ICT infrastructure in general, the preparation of the three key stakeholders (individuals, businesses and governments) to use ICTs and benefit from, and the actual use of the latest technologies in information and communications available.

Research is carried out by the World Economic Forum with Insead, the international business school and is sponsored by Cisco Systems.
